vosges unfocused equalisation

Life is ‘trying things to see if they work.     (Ray Bradbury)

Magic like Nyquill.  Still fighting the cold but I think I am getting better. Once I gave in to being drugged at night and discovered the healing powers of actual sleep, the healing began.  We are into week 4 now since I wasn't feeling great when we went to Boston for Christmas.  Anyway, that's the health report.  It hasn't helped that it's been in the 40's here in South Florida the past week.  Two days have warmed up to where we should be at this point, but that's not enough.  I want it warm enough to bend my fingers.

My other time squish is Ollie.  OMG, I cannot believe how much attention he draws!  Either one of us or the other have him out for his morning romp with the big dogs on the 13th fairway.  That's at 7 am.  He wakes up about an hour before and we try to ignore him but can't for long.  He then goes on his first walk of the day, as soon as I can get my plastic shoes and mittens on.  When that's done we come back in to grab a big towel and leave for the doggies' get-together.  He loves it-  pretty good at keeping up with the others too, and he runs and rolls in the cold grass for about a half hour.  The towel is bundled around him for the ride home (all of five minutes but he is soaking wet and it's windy and cold), then it's time for breakfast.  Coffee for me, and a new routine with kibble for him-  down on the floor for 20 minutes, remove what hasn't been eaten.  Time to go out again for a bathroom break.  Whew.  By now its 8 am, maybe 8:30 if the last walk involved lotsa sniffing to see who had peed on our lawn in recent days.

By 9 he is taking a morning nap, I watch some news, pick up, take shower, empty dishwasher, etc.  Then we either go to the studio when he wakes up and takes another walk, or we do other stuff at the house.  And whammy, time for lunch.  And so goes the day.  I've been trying for three days now to get to the bank!  Don't ask me for cash...
Here he is trying to get my attention by attacking from under my desk.  First picture you can see his little alligator bite, second picture is retreat.  Constant.

So, yesterday I went to the studio with the PLAN to finish 5 guys for the Unicorn tapestry. Never touch them, got involved in twelve other things, #1 was stitching up the newshark-teeth  holes in the blouse I had stitched up last week.  It's a goner and I am kicking myself for not wearing body armor.

COLOR LESSON:
whether you want it or not
a simple bunch o' hibiscus from the SAME bush
Look carefully-  top most blossom is a golden yellow, bottom most blossom is a deep rust red.  In between are salmon, coral, orange, peach, and on and on.  Lesson is that when you THINK something is one color, you are wrong.  Genetics (like here), how the light hits the object, what around it is influencing the color, your pallet limitations, whatever.  Use as many of the colors that you can identify, then use it's complement to enhance what you've got with shadows or background.  In short, More is More.  Always.

Oh geesh, almost forgot today's squirrel!  A beauty today---

A real treat in the art lesson today-
Do Ho Suh was born in Seoul, Korea, in 1962. After earning his BFA and MFA in Oriental Painting from Seoul National University, and fulfilling his term of mandatory service in the South Korean military, Suh relocated to the United States to continue his studies at the Rhode Island School of Design and Yale University. Best known for his intricate sculptures that defy conventional notions of scale and site-specificity, Suh draws attention to the ways viewers occupy and inhabit public space.
From an interview with ART21:
I would say the Korean house project started from this need to fulfill a certain desire, when I graduated from [Rhode Island School of Design]. I was in New York for a year before I went to grad school. I was living on 113th Street, near Columbia, and my apartment building was right across the street from the fire station. And it was really, really noisy, and I couldn’t sleep well. And I was thinking, “When was my last time to have a really good sleep?” And that was in a small room, back in Korea. And I wanted to bring the house, somehow, to my New York apartment. So, that’s where everything started. So, I started to think about the materials and the practicality of that project or the possibility of the project. And the choice of fabric came very naturally. Literally, I was going to install that fabric Korean house in my New York apartment, but apparently my apartment was much smaller, so I couldn’t really do it. But it turned out to be a project, later. I did do a test because it was a fairly large project for me to tackle at that time. I did the test in my small studio in New York, in muslin cloth. And it worked.
Google him, enlarge these imgaes-  his work is astounding!

Time to go do something productive, miss you guys!  Tell your friends I am back again so we can be in touch!
